ICT: Stop motion animation workshops
Science, Design & Technology: Victorian parlours with working lights |
Term 1
During the Autumn term we investigate how people lived in the past. Through local history studies we learn about life in Victorian Times in Holywood and the surrounding area. We visit the Ulster Folk Museum and Down Gaol to learn more about life for children in the 1900s and explore the legacy our ancestors have left. In Art we sketch Victorian artefacts and buildings, design wallpaper in the style of William Morris, create clay tiles and 3D Victorian parlours. In ICT, December is devoted to working on stop motion animation projects using iPad apps, iMovie and Movie Maker; click here to view one of our animations. |
Maths through Art:

Term 2
After Christmas we look at Extreme Environments around the world. In groups we delve deeper into the world of extreme weather and design and present Power Points based on our non-fiction research to develop our presentation skills. In Art we create Great Waves in the style of Hokusai, print using styrofoam stencils and make erupting volcanoes using mod rock materials. This term we also begin rehearsals for our school production and enjoy taking part in the Priory Music Festival. We love experimenting with something new so we design interactive audiovisual presentations about famous polar explorers and other adventurers from around the world. After half-term we thoroughly enjoy Science Week at Sullivan Prep, visiting local higher level education centres to learn about the wonders of science. We also take part in Fair Trade Fortnight, carrying out research about the journey of food products, taste testing and using a green screen to interview farmers about how fair trade has improved their lives for the better.

Term 3
Our final topic celebrates the Wonders Of The World, focusing firstly on the natural wonders of the Rainforest. Having researched the tribes and wildlife of these ecosystems, we compose rainforest sound stories for performance at our House Music competition. The Young Enterprise 'Our World' project teaches us about world trade and we try our hand at global exchange. We finish the year with a memorable residential full of outdoor pursuits and adventure at Greenhill YMCA. Prize Day concludes our special end of year celebrations.
PREP BUddies
We have a Buddy System operating in our school. Each of our Prep 7 students are linked up with a Prep 1 pupil at the start of September and throughout the year we spend time getting to know each other, reading to one another and sharing in our learning across the curriculum. Click here to see what we have been getting up to so far this year.
