SPECIALIST TEACHERS
To assist with the promotion of the Creative Arts, as well as with Physical Movement, we employ a part-time PE/Games teacher for P1-P7 classes. The expertise this teacher brings is exceptional. From P5 onwards, our pupils have 3 hours of PE and Games per week as well as a term of Swimming lessons at the local pool.
We also enjoy the expertise of a part-time specialist teacher of Music for our P1-P7 classes. The specialist teacher assists with assemblies, special events such as Harvest, Christmas and school drama productions which are a particular highlight of the Prep. We like our children to have lots of opportunities to have an audience and experience what it is like to work as part of a team.
Spanish is our chosen second language and we have the expertise of a Spanish speaking teacher whose job entails a visit each week to Preps 1-6 inclusive when she takes the pupils through lots of fun oral activities. French is added in at P7 level so that our children will have experience of modern languages before moving on to their Y8 school.
The Prep has a Learning Support Co-ordinator for Special Educational Needs and she works three full days a week. Her job involves her liaison with class teachers to assist them with planning for needs inside a classroom as well as addressing the needs or individuals or small groups through a programme of regular withdrawal for literacy and/or numeracy needs. She also is able to access support from outside bodies where appropriate to the needs of a child.
